Inspired by classic East Asian folding screens and Chinese craftsmanship, “A Handmade Christmas” tree is composed of triangular panels that reinterpret the traditional Christmas tree shape in a modern context. Each panel is embellished with refined Chinese hand embroidery - Pan Jin Xiu (盤金繡), a technique that draws on a 2,000-year-old artisanal “Dragon’s Robe” design that was once used for the Emperor and incorporates a distinctive “hand-twisted” gold thread. Reviving this traditional craft in Wuxi, Jiangsu province – 7 embroidery masters spent hundreds of hours embroidering a festive pattern of pine, pinecones, and golden baubles.

“Inspired by festive scents, the design challenges the notion of a traditional Chinese screen as a room divider and reimagines the piece as a deconstructed tree within a pine forest. The feeling is inclusive and embracing, and the piece is designed to live beyond the festive season.” - Victoria Tang.

In keeping with our annual tradition and the spirit of giving, the one-of-a-kind tree will be raffled for charity, with all proceeds benefitting the Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association.
