EXPERIENCES

The Secret of Yan Yan

Bringing together art, mythology and sustainability, we celebrated this year’s Chinese New Year of the Dragon by collaborating with English design house de Gournay and Chinese artist Wanbing Huang. The collaboration transformed Wanbing’s conceptual art piece ‘Yan Yan’ into exquisite hand-painted wallpaper.

The next-generation Chinese artist wove together traditional Chinese mythology with modern artistic vision as she took inspiration from ancient star maps and Suan Ni, the fifth son of the Dragon in Chinese mythology, to create an auspicious beast she calls ‘Yan Yan’. The wallpaper installation has journeyed across our Houses, first unveiled at The Middle House before travelling to The Temple House and now, The Opposite House.

It’s a collaboration that highlights our shared vision for pioneering creativity as we cultivate and support cultural dialogue with like-minded artists and offer transformative experiences that resonate with both Chinese heritage and modern art.

Full installation dates of ‘Yan Yan’ as follows:

The Middle House in Shanghai | 25 January – 17 February

The Temple House in Chengdu | 21 February – 13 March

The Opposite House in Beijing | 18 March – 31 May
