HOUSES IN ACTION

AN INCLUSIVE WORKPLACE

We're committed to supporting local community groups and promoting an inclusive workplace. Since 2018, The Upper House commenced its partnership with Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association (HKDSA) to offer vocational training and job experience to its members.  Those selected to join the programme complete 18-hours of training followed by a two-month attachment across different departments. As a testament to the success of the programme, The Upper House has hired three graduates in part-time and full-time roles in Housekeeping and Guest Experience.

UPCYCLING WITH SOAP CYCLING

We work with Soap Cycling to collect lightly used bathroom amenities for redistribution to those in need whilst minimising landfill waste. For every room booking from June-December 2019, we donated HK$60 from every room booking to Soap Cycling, enabling the distribution of hygiene kits to frontline cleaners and communities, totally over HK$400,000.

Its All On Tap

We’re proud to be a Founding Collective Member of Belu Hong Kong, a UK-based social enterprise, with the installation of a water filtration system at Salisterra. For a nominal charge, guests can enjoy unlimited still or sparkling filtered water, helping to reduce our carbon footprint and single-use bottles. Social impact is also created, with 100% of Belu’s profits donated to global water charity, WaterAid, which helps bring clean water to communities worldwide.

GREENING OUR GUEST ROOMS

We understand the importance of reducing our impact on the planet and showing our guests the steps we’ve taken to provide a greener hotel experience. We’ve started by eliminating all single-use plastics from in-room consumables, installed filtration taps for unlimited drinking water and sourced natural bathroom amenities in recyclable aluminium tubes.

DOING OUR PART, SMALL AND BIG

My team and I continuously work on improving our energy efficiency and reducing our water consumption at The Upper House. I’m proud of my involvement in the renovation of Salisterra which has received the Three Leaf Green Kitchen rating. To me, sustainability means reducing our impact on the planet by conserving resources, exploring new energy through solar, wind and water, as well as reusing and recycling wherever possible.
