IT'S TIME FOR SOME SELF-CARE

Breathe in, breathe out…This year across our Houses, we’re prioritising wellness in all its many forms. At The Temple House, there are Singing Bowl sessions throughout summer while over at The Upper House, General Manager Kristina has curated a whole line-up of wellness activities. And guess what? This year is a big one for us: we’re celebrating our 50th anniversary with the Swire Properties Original. Always. exhibition.

WELLNESS WITH KRISTINA

“Wellness to me is a lifestyle, encompassing overall well-being to create healthy, happy habits daily which are good for the soul,” says The Upper House’s General Manager Kristina. We chat to her about the wellness initiatives and partnerships she’s launched at The Upper House, plus her day-to-day and own healthy routines to destress and unwind.

What’s in a day’s work for you?

I am a believer in creating healthy habits for myself, my family and my team, so routine and list-making feature heavily both at home and work.

The alarm goes off at 6.30am every morning. I try to get in one hour of “me time” whilst the rest of the house is still asleep, to go for a run, hike or swim. Thereafter, it’s a mad dash of getting my boys, fed, cleaned and dressed, and myself hotel presentable!

9.30am is a highlight of my day with our team management meeting. We all share a piece of “good news” to ensure it’s a positive and constructive meeting and set the tone for the rest of the day. Thereafter it’s a non-stop flow of seeing guests, team meetings and responding to the ad hoc nature of hotel operations, moments akin at times to that of Fawlty Towers or Hotel Babylon!

Lunch and dinner are amongst my favourite – we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming back several of our regulars to Salisterra with the relaxations of dining restrictions just in time for the launch of our new menus from our Executive Chef Cary Docherty. The buzz of a busy dining room weaved in with the dance of service is such a high to be a part of.

Hometime is usually after 8pm. I will have to do bedtime virtually via Facetime with the boys most days but I sneak in for a cuddle and kisses in their sleep as soon as I am back home.

What does wellness mean to you and why?

It’s a lifestyle for me and it’s about balance. I exercise five to six days out of seven as routine, which is just about getting moving, sweating and being outdoors in the mornings. It makes me happy more than anything. My family and my team know that if I don’t, they will encounter a very grumpy person! I much prefer to be out in nature running, hiking or swimming then on a treadmill or at a CrossFit class.

What are some wellness-related activities that travellers can enjoy in Swire Hotels?

The Upper House is named to symbolise an “upward journey” to a retreat above the bustling city. We conjure a sense of relaxation not only through our design and architecture, but also by collaborating with different partners to provide an all-encompassing wellness experience to our Guests.

In residence at The Upper House and co-founded by friend of our House, Lindsay Jang, Family Form is a dynamic and immersive conditioning workout designed with hand and ankle weights and hosted in optimal conditions to enhance and motivate – heat, humidity and bold music. We recently worked with Lindsay to launch Family Food in Salisterra, offering a menu of perfectly curated salads inspired by Lindsay’s favourite combinations.

We have partnered with GOOD Yoga to offer complimentary weekend yoga classes for our in-House guests. They are also in resident with us to offer a wide range of classes daily. The classes focus on the fundamental yoga poses that make up a well-rounded yoga practice.

V Healing with Sabrina Villard offers shamanic healing, the most ancient form of spirituality and a practice that has existed in some form throughout time and history, born as a response to society’s well-being needs. Sabrina helps our guest to release images, information and emotions that have an impact on our everyday lives, and is able to offer sound, sustainable remedies that resonate strongly.

Stone & Star was founded to share the beauty and wonders of crystals and the cosmos, and how they can become allies in our own journeys of healing, finding inner peace, and happiness. Our partner Stone and Star offer oracle and tarot reading, as well as crystal viewing.

We also host our own #TUHRunningClub on the first Monday of every month, led by UESCA certified running coach Andrew Wong and our team, along the harbour front route (6.5km) from Wan Chai to Sai Ying Pun.

ZEN OUT AT THE TEMPLE HOUSE

Let serenity and tranquility be your guides at The Temple House this summer. Mi Xun Spa is offering wellness treatments featuring Singing Bowl Healing and Himalayan Crystal Salts to rejuvenate the body and mind.
Let serenity and tranquility be your guides at The Temple House this summer. Mi Xun Spa is offering wellness treatments featuring Singing Bowl Healing and Himalayan Crystal Salts to rejuvenate the body and mind.

Singing bowl healing transfers energy through audio and vibrational frequencies, allowing resonance to course through you and making for a gentle soothing sensation from the inside out, both for body and mind.

Staying at home? Kyle Zhou, Assistant Manager at Mi Xun Spa, has the tips to get you started on this journey of relaxation. First, he advises, queue up some “Singing Bowl Healing” music (available on the internet with a quick search) and play it in a quiet setting. Settle into a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down, before using scent of massage oil on your wrists or behind the ears. Then just lie back, close your eyes and let the sound wave massage wash over you.

SMALL ACTIONS, BIG CHANGES

Every little bit helps when it comes to making positive changes. Our Houses have been reducing energy through Swire Properties’ Green Kitchen Initiatives, with some of our restaurants awarded the highest “Three Leaf Rating” last year. Our teams are also advocating energy conservation in the office. Read more for how Georgina at The Opposite House makes saving energy a daily routine.
And it’s not only our kitchens that we’re making greener. We designed The Middle House to minimise environmental impact and reduce our carbon footprint. We use reclaimed water system for toilet flushing, solar hot water in the kitchen and LED lamps throughout our House. Beyond just removing plastic straws and stirrers in all our restaurants and bars, we also worked closely with the property management to launch a waste-recycling program in the complex, helping to generate renewable electricity.

At The Opposite House, Assistant Director of Sales, Georgina Zhang makes saving energy a daily routine by reminding her colleagues to shut down computers and turn off the lights before leaving. “Before I joined Swire,” she says, “I already believed in protecting natural resources and the climate. Swire’s vision aligns with mine and encourages my beliefs. I found my sense of belonging here and feel so proud.”
