Critically acclaimed South African photographer Pieter Hugo flew in to Hong Kong for the weekend to chat with us about his adventures across Africa and Asia. Best known for his evocative and confronting portraits, Pieter shared the stories behind some of his iconic work – his latest project shooting Chinese youth in Beijing and starkly direct portraits of young and old against a backdrop of rugged landscapes such as the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide and post-apartheid South Africa. His intense portraits provide a raw depiction of the beauty, confusion, sorrow and sordid experience of our world.
